The Marxist perspective argues that the people in power control what the people with less power consume. In Marxist philosophy, the term cultural hegemony describes the domination of
a culturally diverse society by the ruling class, who manipulate the
culture of that society, this influences audiences in to believing what they believe and force feeding them their ideologies. A prime example of this is the gatekeepers of major newspapers, such as the Times and The Sun, where the gatekeepers are usually the editors, who chose specifically what goes on the newspaper. For example, newspapers will put down negatives as they will show the audiences what is wrong rather than achievements. An example of this is the Ian Tomlinson murder where the press published that Ian Tomlinson had collapsed and died of a heart attack, but in reality he was attacked by an officer for being a bystander at the G20 protests.
